The Traceable option toggles whether or not a node will be considered during a raytrace, which is useful when analyzing a system under multiple configurations or for debugging. A check box next to the selected node means that it should be both rendered and considered in the raytrace, otherwise the node will be ignored and the node will appear grayed out with a red X. Multiple nodes can be selected simultaneously by holding down the <Ctrl> key while selecting the individual nodes with a left mouse click. In this case the options are to ‘Make All Traceable’ or to ‘Make All Not Traceable.’ This control applies to the parent node and all of its children.
NOTE: The Traceable child of a Not Traceable parent node is rendered but not raytraced, unless the Linear surface search option is selected instead of the default Hierarchial surface search option in the Advanced Raytrace… dialog.
This feature can be accessed by right mouse clicking on an entity (Optical Source or Geometry node) in the object tree and selecting "Traceable" from the list menu.
A Not Traceable child node under a Traceable parent is ignored during the raytrace. All other Traceable children are both rendered and traced.
A Traceable child node under a Not Traceable parent is rendered but not raytraced.
Optical Sources and Geometry nodes Curves are not Traceable during the raytrace (they do not interact with rays). However, toggling the Traceable option will affect the curve's visibility. If the curve should be drawn in the 3D view (as set on the curve's visualization tab), it should also be Traceable.
Sources flagged as Not Traceable do not contain any rays.
A surface used only for trimming is never traceable.
Multiple nodes can be selected by holding down the <Ctrl> key. Each of the selected nodes is highlighted in the Visualization window with a 3-dimensional wireframe rendering of its bounding volume. When all of the desired nodes have been selected, right mouse click on one of the nodes and select ‘Make All NOT Traceable’ from the list menu to remove the node from the raytrace and rendered view.
This operation can be undone by repeating the process and selecting the ‘Make All Traceable’ option from the right click pop-up menu.
Example 1 – Operations on a node Right mouse click on the parent node to open the list menu and select Traceable. The icons next to each node are grayed out with small red ‘X’ located next to the each and the check mark next to Traceable in the list menu is also cleared.
Repeating the process reverses the selection, making the Parent node and all of its children Traceable.
