Description

The Visualization Attributes option is functionally identical to the Visualization Attributes control found under the Visualization tab in a surface dialog.  Using this feature, you can assign attributes to an entire node (including the children) from a single dialog.

Navigation

This feature may be accessed by right mouse clicking on a node in the object tree and selecting "Visualization Attributes" from the list menu.

Controls

Control

Inputs

Defaults

Drawing Mode: Reset Draw Mode

Check this box to change the render mode for all of the selected nodes.

Unchecked

Color Attributes: Reset Color

Check this box to change the rendered color for all of the selected nodes.

Unchecked

Color Attributes: Wire Frame

Pull down menu to change wire frame color for all of the selected nodes.

Default wire frame color

Color Attributes: Shine

Change the ‘Shine’ for all the selected nodes. The value must be between 0 and 128, with 128 having the most Shine.

128

Color Attributes: Color Scheme

Change the color scheme (Ambient, Diffuse, Specular) for all of the selected nodes. Each color can be changed independently via the standard Windows color palette.

Default surface color

Color Attributes: Predefined list

Change the color scheme using one of the predefined colors.

Default surface color

Color Attributes: Assign

Click to assign the displayed color scheme from the predefined list.

None

Opacity (Translucency): Reset Opacity

Check this box to reset the translucency of all of the selected nodes. Enter a value between 0 and 1, where 0 is invisible and 1 is completely opaque.

Not selected (.5)

Tessellation Scale: Scale Tessellation

Check this box to reset the tessellation scale of all of the selected nodes. Enter a value between 0.1 and 10.

Not selected (0.5)

OK

Accept settings and close dialog box.

Cancel

Discard settings and close dialog box.

Application Notes

Visualization and hierarchy

Changes to the Visualization Attributes of a Parent node are applied to all of its children as well.

Assigning a predefined color scheme

Assigning a Predefined Color scheme overrides any settings currently displayed. Note that ‘Assign’ does not apply the color change until either the ‘OK’ or the ‘Apply’ button is pushed.

Tessellation scale factor

Reducing the tessellation scale (scale factor < 1) improves visual appearance, but increases rendering time.  If the box is checked, the tessellation scale is applied with every click on the ‘Apply’ button. For example, the tessellation scale factor of 0.5, Applied twice, is (0.5)(0.5) = 0.25.

Curves

Visualization Attributes can be applied to any Geometry node except for Curves.

Multiple nodes

Multiple nodes not necessarily under the same parent can be selected by holding down the <Ctrl> key while left mouse clicking each of the desired nodes.

Rendering modes

Flat Shading - The entity is rendered as a connected set of planar triangular facets. This option is best for rendering planar surfaces.

Smooth Shading - The entity is rendered as a smoothed polygon mesh. This option is best for rendering curved surfaces.

Irregular Wire Mesh - The entity is rendered as an open mesh of triangles. The triangles are not filled.

Irregular Wire Mesh - The entity is rendered as unconnected points located at the vertices of the triangular mesh.
