The Polarization Spot Diagram command generates a plot of the 2D polarization state for rays filtered by an analysis plane. The interpretation of the polarization ellipses is dependent on the orientation of the analysis surface with respect to the incident rays. If the local z-axis of the analysis surface is aligned with the direction of the ray(s) propagation, then the handedness is determined by aligning your thumb in the direction that the ray is coming from and applying the right hand rule. For example, if the ray(s) is propagating along the global Z-axis and the analysis surface local +Z axis is pointed in the same direction, aligning your thumb along the global -Z axis and applying the right hand rule will give you the correct handedness of the ray(s).
In addition to the polarization spot diagram plot, ray count information is reported to the output window.
This command can be accessed in the following ways: •Menu > Analyses > Polarization Spot Diagram •Ctrl + Shift + L •Toolbar button:
The data in the chart can be saved to a text data file, but only the ray locations are saved. Polarization information is not saved to the file.
