Description

Prior to FRED version 19.0, all licenses of FRED were implemented through Thales' SuperPro technology platform.  Although this is considered to be a "legacy" product by its vendor, Photon Engineering will continue to maintain support for the SuperPro platform as seamlessly as possible while concurrently supporting the newer Sentinel technology.  Although Photon Engineering has no plans to force users to transition from SuperPro to Sentinel licensing, users should be aware that Thales will discontinue support for SuperPro at some future date.  When this occurs, SuperPro hardware will not be available for replacement.

The SuperPro licensing implementation provides software protection by enforcing license validation in the following configurations:

Single-user license accessed on the local client PC through the use of a USB hardware dongle

Floating network license (USB dongle) hosted on a license server visible to the client PC over the network

As a legacy product, the SuperPro licensing implementation is naturally less flexible than the Sentinel implementation in terms of supported functionality, installation requirements and license management tools.  Inquiries regarding license upgrades to the Sentinel implementation can be sent to fredsales@photonengr.com.

Please refer to the Help topics below for information pertaining to your specific SuperPro license configuration:

SuperPro - Single User License

Loss Disclaimer

You are responsible for protecting your hardware or software key from theft or loss as described in the FRED Optical Engineering Software EULA.  Photon Engineering does not replace lost keys for any reason.  Photon Engineering recommends that you insure your keys for the value of the purchased software, as you would for any other asset of similar value.

If you plan to modify the configuration of a physical or virtual workstation with a softkey installed, it is strongly recommended that you re-host the softkey to a different computer while the modifications are made and then return the softkey to the reconfigured machine.  This reduces the chance of losing your softkey license as a result of computer failure.

SuperPro License Dialog

The SuperPro License Authorization Dialog provides the following functionality related to the SuperPro licensing implementation:

Provides a summary of the currently connected SuperPro license in the FRED License Status portion of the dialog

Allows updating of the currently connected SuperPro license using the Authorize Key function

Allows generation of a SuperPro Trial license for prospective FRED customers

Reports the connected SuperPro key serial number

The SuperPro License Authorization dialog (image below) can be accessed in the following ways:

From the License Search Strategy dialog, press the "SuperPro Dialog" button

Navigate to Help > License Authorization

Note that when accessing the License Authorization dialog through the Help menu, either a SuperPro specific dialog or a Sentinel specific license dialog will be presented depending on which technology the connected FRED license is using.

The SuperPro License Authorization dialog items are described below.

FRED License Status

Authorization Key/Dongle

Displays "superpro" when a superpro license has been successfully acquired.  Displays "Not Found" if a SuperPro license has not been acquired.

Software Expiration Date

If a date value, YYYY/MM/DD, is displayed, then the FRED license will stop functioning after the displayed date.  If "None" is displayed, then the license supports FRED versions up to the Max Authorized Version in perpetuity.

Tech Support Expire Date

Specifies the ending date of the license's technical support contract.  The license cannot run versions of FRED released after the displayed date and is not eligible to receive technical support.

Max Authorized Version

Specifies the maximum FRED version number that the license is eligible to run.

Max Simultaneous Users

Specifies the maximum number of simultaneous users the license allows.  Network licenses support simultaneous users >= 1 and will be indicated by the "Network Key" checkbox.

Read-only checkboxes

The read-only checkboxes on the right hand side of the dialog indicate the FRED features that are currently authorized by the connected license.

FRED License Authorization Passwords

This portion of the dialog allows new license authorization passwords to be applied to the connected SuperPro license.  Refer to the License Authorization Update section for more information.

FRED Trial Registration

Existing FRED customers can ignore these controls, which are used for generating Trial licenses for FRED prospects.  Trial customers will receive specific instructions from their sales contact regarding the generation of a Trial license.

Dismiss

Closes the license authorization dialog

0x????

The text string at the bottom center of the dialog is the manufacturer's assigned serial number for the connected SuperPro license.

License Authorization Update

Updated license authorization codes may be issued by Photon Engineering as the result of a license maintenance contract renewal, upgrade, or upon payment of a new license.  In these cases, the license authorization codes are provided electronically in a text file and will need to be applied to the corresponding SuperPro license using the procedure below.  The license update only needs to be performed one time from any client PC running FRED that connects to the corresponding license.  The procedure for updating the license is the following:

1.Start FRED, configured to connect to the corresponding SuperPro license you wish to update

2.Navigate to Help > License Authorization in order to open the SuperPro License Authorization Dialog

3.From the text license authorization file (or email) received from Photon Engineering, copy the two rows of license authorization codes

4.Paste the copied license authorization codes into the text box portion of the FRED License Authorization Passwords section of the SuperPro License Authorization Dialog

5.Press the Authorize Key button on the SuperPro License Authorization Dialog

If the authorization is successful, you should receive a notification prompt form FRED indicating success.  Additionally, the FRED License Status portion of the SuperPro License Authorization Dialog will display the updated license information.

Command Line Authorization

Under certain circumstances, a SuperPro dongle may become only partially authorized (i.e. not all of the expected features will be available) and FRED displays a warning message indicating that certain capabilities are not allowed.  This is usually the result of including only a subset of the supplied license authorization codes when updating the license using the procedure described above.

This situation can be resolved by authorizing the SuperPro dongle using all of the supplied license codes from the Windows command line in the following way:

1.

Open a command prompt window.

2.

Change to the Bin directory of your FRED installation (cd "C:\Program Files\Photon Engineering\FRED 16.112.0\Bin\")

3.

Enter "Fred.exe /authorize XXXX - XXXX - XXXX - XXXX - XXXX - XXXX - XXXX - XXXX".

Note: Replace the "XXXX" characters with each of the corresponding 8 groups of hex codes from your license file. Leave one blank space before and after each of the "-" separators.
