The Single Lens Reflex Camera Tutorial will introduce many of the capabilities within FRED relevant to imaging systems. Links are provided to the relevant Help pages as various topics are referenced.
The tutorial is divided into three sections:
Basic - where users will 1) construct geometry by building a single lens reflex camera from its optical prescription, 2) create a Source Primitive, 3) perform basic raytracing, 4) use analysis tools such as the Analysis Surface, Ray Summary, Geometric Best Focus & Position Spot Diagram, and 5) set up and carry out a paraxial analysis.
Intermediate - where complexity is increased by 1) importing a lens prescription and CAD geometry, 2) creating a Detailed Source with multiple field angles, 3) adding coatings and custom materials, 4) applying optical properties with the multi-surface edit feature, 5) carrying out a basic ghosting analysis using Raypath features, and 6) using supplemental plotting & visualization features.
Advanced - where some of FRED's advanced features are incorporated including 1) calculation of the Point Spread Function (PSF) using the Irradiance Spread function, 2) interfacing FRED with Excel as part of an Optical Transfer Function (OTF) calculation, and 3) inclusion of scatter typical to polished surfaces.
