New Prism

Description


This command specifies a new prism type in the current FRED document.  Users can select from a list of 16 available FRED prism types.

This command can be accessed in the following ways:

Menu > Create > New Prism

Ctrl + Alt + P

Toolbar button:  

On the Geometry folder in the object tree view, right mouse click and select "Create New Prism..." from the list menu.

Control

Inputs / Description

Defaults

Parent

Displays the name of the tree object that will be the parent of the new prism.

If the Create New Prism dialog was opened by right mouse clicking in the object tree, the parent is the name of the selected tree object. Otherwise, the Geometry folder is the parent.

Name

Displays the name of the prism.

Prism n

Description

Displays the description of the prism.

 

Type

The list of predefined prisms includes the following:

Abbe (image flip)

Amici (90 deg deviation)

Corner Cube (180 deg deviation)

Cube Beamsplitter (split beam)

Dove (image rotation)

Equilateral (fixed rotation)

Fresnel Rhomb (image rotation)

General (user sets angle)

Leman (image flip)

Pechan (image rotation)

Penta Prism (90 deg deviation)

Porro (180 deg deviation)

Reversion (image rotation)

Right Angle (90 deg deviation)

Schmidt (45 deg deviation)

Wedge (user sets deviation)

Right Angle

All non-optical surfaces are absorbing

Check this to make all non-optical surfaces absorbing. Otherwise, non-optical surfaces are uncoated.

Auxiliary input 1 (not shown above)

Allows entry of extra data needed to define the prism. Always labeled with the type of data needed.

Allows entry of extra data needed to define the prism. Always labeled with the type of data needed.

Semi-Aperture of Input Face

X, Y

Defines the input face semi-apertures in the X & Y directions.

Materials

Glass Name

Displays the name of the prism material.

Simple Glass

Glass Catalog

Displays the name of the catalog that holds the prism material.

Current

Glass button

Displays a Material dialog that allows a change of the prism material.

 

Immersion Name

Displays the name of the material the prism is immersed in.

Air

Immersion Catalog

Displays the name of the catalog that holds the immersion material.

Current

Immersion button

Displays a Material dialog that allows a change of the immersion material.

 

Location/Orientation

Location/Orientation of the Center of the Input Face

Specifies the Location and Orientation of the prism with the center of the input face as the origin.

Starting Coordinate System: Geometry

 

OK

Accept settings and close dialog box.

 

Cancel

Discard settings and close dialog box.

 

Apply

Accept settings and keep dialog box open.
