Description
This topic describes toolbar, mouse and keyboard combinations which allow users to efficiently manipulate FRED's 3D View including scene rotation, translation and entity focusing.
Controls
Rotation

Hold down the middle mouse button (scroll wheel) and drag to rotate the scene. This functionality only works if the scroll wheel has not been assigned a different functionality in your operating system.

Toolbar button:

Translation
|
•
|
|
Hold Ctrl + middle mouse button (scroll wheel) to translate the scene.
|
|
•
|
|
Toolbar button:

Zoom
|
•
|
|
Hold Shift + middle mouse button while moving the mouse vertically to zoom the scene on the point of focus.
|
|
•
|
|
Scroll with the mouse wheel to zoom the scene about the mouse position.
|
|

Fit view to selection
|
•
|
|
Zoom to fit the current selection(s) in the object tree by right clicking on a selected entity in the object tree and selecting Fit View to Selection from the menu options. The rotation center will also be changed to match the center of the updated view.

|
Use the keyboard command Alt + Z when entities are selected in the object tree.
|
|
•
|
|
Place the mouse over an entity in the 3D View and press the space bar.
|
Entity focus
|
•
|
|
By mouse clicking on an object while holding Ctrl in the 3D View, an entity can be made the focus of the view such that it becomes the center point for rotation manipulations.
