Description
This feature offers an automated utility for data smoothing from within the chart viewer, allowing such operations as average window smoothing, median window smoothing, radial average smoothing, specified value, and floor/ceiling truncation.
This command available in the right mouse click pop-up menu brings up the Smooth Data dialog box. This dialog provides an environment where the data can be smoothed with various parameters and techniques and while the dialog is open, the data can be restored trivially.
WARNING: It is trivial to recover the original data set while the Smoothing Data dialog is open. But once the dialog box has been closed, the smoothed dataset becomes the only stored dataset associated with that spread function plot and the only way to recover the original dataset is to recalculate the irradiance or intensity spread function from the filtered rays.
Navigation
This feature is accessible by right mouse clicking on the active 3D chart view and selecting "Smooth/Modify Data".

Inputs

Defaults
Smooth/Modify Operation
Average Window Smoothing
Sets the value of a pixel to the average of the user specified number of nearest neighbor pixels (specified by row, col). This is equivalent to a numerical convolution.
Default
row = 1, col = 1
Median Window Smoothing
Sets the value of a pixel to the median of the user specified number of nearest neighbor pixels (specified by row, col). This maintains the slope whereas the Average Window Smoothing does not.
Not Selected
row = 1, col = 1
Radial Average Smoothing
Perform a radial average by setting pixel values to the average of all the pixels at that radius.
Not Selected
row, col at max value
Set to a specified value region
Reset data in the ranges specified by row, col to the value input by the user.
Not Selected
row min/max = grid range
col min/max = grid range
Truncate to floor/ceiling
Truncate the data in the range specified by row, col by the floor and ceiling values input by the user.
Not selected
row min/max = grid range
col min/max = grid range
floor/ceiling = min/max data
Restore original data
Restore to the dataset when the dialog was opened.
Unchecked
Restore original data before performing the operation
If checked, this option will restore to the dataset when the dialog box was opened before applying the next smoothing operation.

Application Notes
Restoring original data
The original data prior to smoothing/modification can be recovered very simply as long as the dialog box remains open. Once the dialog box has been closed, the smoothed/modified data replaces the original data set. If the dialog box has been closed the original data can be recovered by performing the data smoothing/modification operation in reverse or by simply recalculating the dataset.
