Description

The following error message is encountered:

"Unable to allocate memory for RayBuffer (RBV)"

This solution also applies to error message:

"Insufficient diskpace - unable to create another ray buffer pagefile."

Solution

This error message indicates that the current Ray Buffer settings in the FRED Preferences are not appropriate for the current system configuration.  Ray Buffer settings allow the user to designate a minimum amount of free disk space required for writing ray information temporarily from memory to hard disk as a page file.  When the minimum free disk space requirement exceeds the amount of free disk space on the hard disk, this error will be generated.

The Ray Buffer settings can be opened by navigating to Menu > Tool > Preferences > Ray Buffer.  The Min free disk space (in GB) value is located in the Pagefile Settings section of the dialog.  Either this value should be reduced or space should be physically freed on the hard disk (i.e. files moved or deleted).
